Comte de Vogüé - 2001
Red  |  Chambolle-musigny  (Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France)
  75.00 - 104.99 €
  ***** 5 stars : Excellent   Spicy
Quite a complex nose, with a high-toned, spicy, earthy edge. Fresh and perfumed with a savoury seriousness to it. This wine has a bit of a split personality: it’s perfumed and inviting on the one hand, yet on the other it is spicy, savoury and assertive. The palate is fresh, savoury and quite structured with great balance.

Morgon, La Voûte St Vincent - 2006
Red  |  Morgon  (Beaujolais, France)
  8.00 - 11.99 €
  **** 4 stars : Very good   Pizzazz
No point celebrating summer without a good beaujolais, and this superior village or cru beaulolais stands out from the pack. Morgon is the second largest of the ten crus beaujolais and the second boldest after Moulin à Vent, renowned for its firm, chunky wines. This is a well-made, elegant, fleshy, plummy beaujolais with real pizzazz.

Red  |  Chassagne-montrachet  (Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France)
  8.00 - 11.99 €
  ***** 5 stars : Excellent   Pour BBQ
There was no denying the star quality of this pinot noir from the 2006 vintage. Domaine Blain-Gagnard is tiny, like most Burgundy estates, but this has oodles of seductive, light, spicy, beefy, truffley fruit, complete with an elegant, long, sweet, earthy finish. At this price you will want to snap up plenty of it. See you in the queue.

Fattoria Ormanni Chianti Classico - 2004
Red  |  Chianti Classico DOCG  (Toscana, Italy)
  8.00 - 11.99 €
  *** 3 stars : Good   Good VFM
Chianti is a good summer standby red as its cherry-styled, violet-scented, faintly bitter fruit goes down well with al fresco summer meals that feature strong meats and cheeses. This hand-picked, part oak-aged Ormanni is predominantly sangiovese, but with 10 per cent cabernet sauvignon; expect lots of rich, leathery, savoury, spicy, chocolatey fruit.

Domaine de la Vougeraie Clos De Vougeot Grand Cru - 2004
Red  |  Clos-de-vougeot  (Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France)
  50.00 - 74.99 €
  ***** 5 stars : Excellent   a legend...
When Martine saw a barrow load of bottles wheeled into the kitchen, she stood still. She touched the bottles and lifted one up. “What is there in this bottle, Babette?” she asked in a low voice. “Not wine?” “Wine, Madame!” Babette answered “No, Madame. It is a Clos de Vougeot 1846!”. Karen Blixen, in Babette’s Feast, has captured the essence of Clos de Vougeot. It is not just a wine, but an emotion, a presence, an event... Not the 1846 - but the 2004 does live up to expectations

Red  |  La Romanée-conti  (Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France)
  105.00 - ∞ €
***** 5 stars : Excellent   Simply the best...
Alluring perfumed nose of sweet red berries and cherries, with lots of ripeness and some tarry, minerally complexity. Quite profound: bold yet elegant. The palate is concentrated and rich with great concentration of minerally complexity. The herb, red berry, cherry and wood notes are perfectly integrated with very smooth, fine tannins. Great balance and elegance
