Presentation of the winery

We, the Torrae del Sale winemakers, act as the protectors of the Italian grape varietals and traditions of Italian winemaking practices, just as the Roman soldiers and towers protected the precious salt deposits of ancient times.

Torrae del Sale translates to "Tower of Salt." In addition to the prosperity wine provided the Romans, salt was a precious commodity that supplied the means to make transactions. In fact, salt was so valuable, Roman soldiers were compensated with it. The word salary is derived from "salarium," the Latin word for salt. During Roman rule, towers were originally created as lookout points to protect ancient cities and mark their territory. Later, these towers stored salt for the region.

The name Torrae del Sale is a tribute to the essential role salt and wine played in the growth of the Roman Empire and the indelible stamp it has made on wine today. Classically crafted using the finest grapes native to Italy, Torrae del Sale produces premium quality wine that is undeniably Italian. Salt is necessary for our survival, but also adds flavor and enhances food. Like salt, wine was necessary for survival at one time. Our wines are full of flavor and enhance a wide variety of foods. Continuing in the tradition of our ancestors, we look forward to making our wines part of your everyday life.
