| | The Melgaço district on the Portuguese bank of the Minho (Miño) river, facing Galicia on the other side, has a special microclimate ideal for the ripening of the Alvarinho (Albariño) grapes.
João Antonio Cerdeira planted the first continuous vineyard of Alvarinho in 1974 - at the time it was not allowed and could only circle a field planted with other crops.
Since then, the project has been growing but it remains at a human/artisanal scale - the wine cellars are still the extension of the family house's garage. Part of the vineyard (the one directly owned by the Cerdeira family) is working in organic production.
The Soalheiro brand has gained much respect in Portugal for its consistent and crispy Alvarinho, with good tropical fruit, great balance between the body and the acidity, as well as good ageing potential. The Primeiras Vinhas (first vines) is particularly elegant and refined. The Reserva ages in oak barrels and requires larger glasses (Burgundy). Both are definitely part of the best white wines in Portugal! Lijsten: Winery Arnaud Steve heeft dit adres ontdekt 4 jaren geleden |
