About the winery
Joan Sardà is a family-owned business devoted to the making and aging of fine wines and cavas.
Our story began in 1927, when Tomàs Sardà, a farmer who cultivated his own vineyards, found himself with a surplus of wine after a good harvest.
An entrepreneurial man, he decided to sell the surplus to a restaurant owned by a relative in the city of Barcelona.
Tomàs’s wine was an instant hit among the restaurant’s clientele, and people began to purchase it from him directly. Through great effort and perseverance, he managed to gain a firm foothold in a major market.
Subsequently, his son Joan and his grandchildren Joan and Antoni, both oenologists, consolidated the company, increased the surface area devoted to vines and built a new winery, allowing them to internationalise the family business.
The vineyards, primarily located in the Penedès Central region, are home to Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot and Syrah grape varieties.
We also grow Lledoner grapes at Cap de Creus in Northern Catalonia. Thus, our range of products encompasses both local and international varieties, which have proven to be highly adaptable to our region.
Sobre la bodega
Joan Sardà es una empresa familiar dedicada a la elaboración y crianza de vinos y cavas.
Nuestra historia empezó en el año 1927 cuando Tomàs Sardà, un agricultor que cultivaba sus propias viñas, obtuvo unos excedentes de vino como resultado de una buena cosecha.
Dado que era un hombre emprendedor, se le ocurrió vender este sobrante al restaurante de un pariente suyo en la ciudad de Barcelona.
El vino de Tomàs obtuvo enseguida un gran éxito entre la clientela del establecimiento y la gente empezó a comprarle vino directamente. Con esfuerzo y tenacidad consiguió abrir un mercado importante.
Posteriormente, su hijo Joan y sus nietos Joan y Antoni, ambos enólogos, consolidaron la empresa, aumentaron la superficie de la vid y construyeron una nueva bodega internacionalizando el negocio familiar.
Las viñas, situadas mayoritariamente en el Penedès central, son de las variedades Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot y Syrah.
También cultivamos Lledoner en el Cap de Creus, al norte de Catalunya. Así pues, nuestra gama de productos abraza las variedades autóctonas y las internacionales, las cuales han demostrado una gran capacidad de adaptación en nuestra región.
