We are habitual wine drinkers( daily), and appreciate the ageable italian wines.
They are priced at a reasonable level in the Société des alcools du Québec, and offer a (best value ) for money in our opinion.
We first discovered Montepulciano d'Abruzzo some years ago at a friend's restaurant ( served as the house wine ) and we loved it in spite of the much higher price tag...imagine when we found it at the SAAQ...for under 8$.
I purchased Farnese Sangiovese 2006 from the Nugget Market in El Dorado Hills , California for 7.99. Not bad! I recently spent 3 months in Rimini Italy. I had a lot of Sangiovese from the Emiglia Romagna region for less than $4.00. The U.S. wine market is way over priced. I also bought Sangiovese Di Romagna from Whole Foods in Roseville California for 7.99. It is lighter and more fruity than Farnese but a good value. It did not stand up up my spicy Italian sausage soup but was good with lighter fare. I like sangiovese!
