The Winery: In 1998 we fulfilled a dream by founding Achaval-Ferrer based on two sound principles: the search for the highest quality in all of our products and respect for the terroir. We interpreted that Argentina's quality potential could be pushed to levels in line with the extreme personality of its soil, its plentiful sunshine and the rarity of its ancient ungrafted vineyards, almost an exclusivity in today's world of viticulture. We are now are glad to belong to this project and to share with you our passion for wine.
The Wines: Achaval-Ferrer Malbec Mendoza, Quimera (blend, Finca Altamira (single vineyard), Finca Mirador (single vineyard), Finca Bella Vista (single vineyard)
40% Malbec, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc Barrel aged and fermented. A super wine that will probably age and improve for some time. Dark and burly with loads of black currant and floral notes. Mainly black currant on the tongue with some minerals. The outstanding thing is its smooth tannins and velvety feel in the mouth. We enjoyed this with some lovely lamb chops and rosemary potatoes. I opened it up just to see if it was as good as I had been told, it was! I have two more bottles and now I am on a mission to find more.
