Presentation of the winery
The property is situated at San Martino della Battaglia (in the municipality Desenzano del Garda, the most well-known town at the bottom of the lake to Italian and foreign tourists) and covers around 26 hectares, entirely planted with vines. San Martino is the heart of Lugana territory (stretching between Desenzano and Peschiera, the boundaries of Lugana D.O.C. in the seventies). In fact, around 70% of the land here is given over to cultivating this particular autochthonous variety. The climate mitigated by the proximity of the lake, the soils of glacier debris origin, with a high clay component, permit this kind of wine to be produced, a wine very well-known locally, but largely unknown in the rest of Italy.
The intention was therefore to return to the family tradition but at the same time to give a fresh, more modern and technological slant to the business. This meant organisation to satisfy a market in continuous evolution and one very different from that of past decades and reaching maximum quality. In fact, during the past 4 years the vineyards and cellar technology have been renewed. Also, in oenologist Antonio Crescini, the Olivini’s have found the combination of everything they were looking for; he follows and looks after all the processing stages, including taking care of the grapes, with scrupulous attention and loving dedication.
All the white wines produced by the Company are obtained from pure Trebbiano di Lugana grapes and range from the light Lugana Doc Olivini (around 60,000 bottles produced per year), to the more complex and structured Lugana Doc Superiore “Demesse Vecchie” (12,000 bottles per year), the special Lugana Brut Doc – classic method - (around 30,000 bottles per year) to finally reach the “Condolcezza” dessert wine.
This company does not restrict itself to producing white wines however. The desire to exploit the potential of this land is expressed also through vintage red wines where its Garda Classico Chiaretto Olivini Doc (5,000 bottles) and Garda Classico Rosso Olivini Doc wines (10.000 bottles) are important. These are also symbols of the wine-making panorama of southern lake Garda. Benaco Bresciano Merlo Igt “Notte a San Martino” – while certainly not typical of the territory, but wisely and knowledgably prepared via a special processing method – is the true triumph of the company (14,000 bottles produced per year).
