White wines : Yamhill County

Yamhill County is both the home and the leader of the modern viticultural movement in Oregon. In 1966, David Lett of the Eyrie Vineyards planted the state’s first Pinot Noir vines in the Red Hills of Dundee. It was the start of a love affair with the ‘heartbreak grape’ that has dominated Yamhill County vineyards ever since. Now home to more than 80 wineries, Yamhill County also has a number of distinct microclimates tucked into a series of hills jutting from the Coast Mountain range. Many of these distinct microclimates have recently been granted AVA status. This has only served to enhance the county’s image as the North American leaders in the promotion of distinct terroir.
