The river Piave divides the area above the city of Treviso into two hilly zones. On the left bank of the Piave are the vineyards that produce the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene wines, while the vines that yield the wines of the Montello and Colli Asolani denomination are situated on the right bank. Each area makes its own version of the Prosecco. The Prosecco of the right bank differs slightly from the more famous wine of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene in that it has a light and unmistakable almondy aftertaste.
In terms of production, Prosecco is the most important wine of the Montello e Colli Asolani DOC denomination. Ranking immediately behind it is the Merlot. The quantity of Cabernet is constantly increasing and the wine is winning an ever-wider circle of admirers.
