The Lison-Pramaggiore DOC was created only recently, the result of a fusion of two pre-existing Denominazione di Origine Controllata areas: Cabernet of Pramaggiore and Tocai of Lison.
The district extends from the province of Pordenone in Friuli-Venezia Giulia as far as the vast plain bounded by the sea to the south and by the Conegliano and Montello hills to the northwest.
In this area, it was once the custom to plant several varieties in alternating rows in the same vineyard. More recently, the producers conversed the vineyards to specialized culture. In the replanting, considerable space was dedicated to Merlot, in particular, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon and Tocai Italico, which now account for the major part of the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC output.
