The area of Piedmont where Coste della Sesia D.O.C. is produced is also home to great wines like Gattinara D.O.C.G. and Lessona D.O.C. As often in similar cases, these important wines have overshadowed their minor siblings, even though the latter have enough character to win the praises of experts if only they were produced in a less crowded area.
The introduction of the Coste della Sesia D.O.C. appellation in 1996 offered a small group of local producers a chance to find a niche for their wines, which are the true expressions of the local winemaking traditions.
Coste della Sesia wines are made with grape varieties that have prospered for centuries in these hills. They have great character, as demonstrated by the Vespolina, Croatina and Nebbiolo varieties.
