The geographical area covered by the Coteaux du Loir appellation stretches across 16 communes in the Sarthe department and 6 in Indre-et-Loire.
Coteaux du Loir white are made from Chenin blanc (Pineau de la Loire); Coteaux du Loir red from Pineau d’Aunis, Cabernet, Côt, Gamay; and Coteaux du Loir rosé from Pineau d’Aunis, Cabernet, Côt, Gamay, Grolleau (up to 25%).
The White wines have a crystal yellow robe, floral and fruity aromas (often with a mineral touch) which subtly evolve towards dried fruit and honey. In great vintage years, the sweet wines that are produced are very similar to their counterparts on the banks of the Loire.
The red and rosé are light, aromatic wines.
