This unusual white Beaune comes from a parcel up on the slope below the eponymous mountain adjoining the more famous Clos des Mouches. Barrel-fermented with gentle lees stirring, it is typical of fine Chardonnay from this commune - an inviting, nuanced aroma of peach, citrus fruits, acacia flower and clean, subtle oak along with a balanced, medium-bodied palate offering charm and finesse. »

Burgundy expert Becky Wasserman, who lives along the Cote d'Or, has put her name on this exclusive selection from a rising star domaine. Their vines in Charlemagne are from an old 'mass' selection and average 40 years of age. The parcel, exposed to the southeast, is situated on the slope above Ladoix, in the middle of the hillside at around 1,000 ft. The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic and the juice is left to settle naturally before racking into barrels. About 50% new oak is used. The 2005 is an especially powerful wine that has 15 to 20 years of cellaring potential. Rated "92" by Burghound (as published under the domaine's name, Ardhuy). »
