Vinexus - Infinity of Wine Duitsland : « As the King of all Gods, Amon-Ra is considered the most powerful figure in Egyptian mythology. The temple of Amon-Ra is recorded as the birthplace of commercial winemaking, having the first ever large scale vineyard grown specifically to make wine for the citizens of the temple. Tasting Note: Dense purple colour, the nose displays notes of blackberry, cherry, nutmeg and intense spice. The wine is voluptuous and yet seamlessly elegant. Supple tannins complement richness and viscosity. It is slightly more fruit driven than the 2004 Amon-Ra. Whereas the 2004 displayed purity and elegance at release, the 2005 will require a little more time to settle down in bottle. The tannin structure and sheer fruit weight of the wine will enable long-term cellaring from 12-18 years. The profound 2005 Shiraz Amon Ra is fashioned from a dry grown, 100- to 110 year-old vineyard, and spends 14 months in a combination of 100% new French and American barrels as well as 300-liter hogsheads. A saturated purple color is followed by scents of creme de cassis, incense, licorice, black raspberries, graphite, and sweet wood. It unfolds beautifully on the palate to reveal terrific richness, full-bodied power, great definition, and lovely elegance. This exquisite Shiraz is still young, but it possesses a degree of accessibility. It should age for two decades. It is a superb example of cutting edge winemaking being utilized on ancient Shiraz vines in the Barossa.Wine Advocate # 167,Oct 2006 Robert Parker 98) »

Wine.com : « Red Wine by Penfolds from Australia. Penfolds Bin 28 is a showcase for warm-climate australian Shiraz - ripe, robust and generously flavoured without reliance on new oak or excessive alcohol. First made in 1962, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend that shows very clear, ripe fruit definition when young, with plenty of concentration and fruit sweetness, and minimal oak influence. Color: Deep brick red. Nose: Generous, warm climate Shiraz is immediately apparent - mirrored by rich Christmas pudding, plum and cherry aromas. Spice and demi-glace secondary notes add to the aromatic interest. Flashes of liquorice, white chocolate and cinnamon arise with a swirl. Palate:Medium-bodied and mouth filling, plummy, berried fruits mesh with dark chocolate, mocha and spice notes. The 2003 Bin 28 is true to its fleshy, well structured style with ripe tannins and balanced acidity. »

Penfolds - Koonunga Hill - Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Vinexus - Infinity of Wine Duitsland : « The Cabernet and Shiraz blends begin with the 2006 Shiraz (70%) – Cabernet Sauvignon (22%) “Koonunga Hill”. Purple-colored, the wine offers meaty black currant, blackberry, and blueberry aromas. On the palate the wine exhibits remarkable focus and structure for its humble price. The fruit is grapy and primary as well as intensely flavored. It should evolve for several years and drink well through 2022 if not longer. It is a fantastic value. As an aside, Peter Gago presented a 1976 Koonunga Hill to demonstrate the aging potential of this cuvee. The wine was showing a bit of age aromatically but none on the palate. At age 31, this wine (which probably cost several dollars on release) is right at its peak (my score 94 points). (Robert Parker)" »
