About the winery
A LEGEND IS BORN
Protos, (of the Greek “FIRST”) is proud and feels privileged of having experienced maturity and stillness in the biggest and first cellar located in the area maintaining its reputation through the years.
Thanks to the fearlessness and devotion to the terroir shown by the comarca’s wine growers in 1927 the best efforts were gathered and the first cellar in la Ribera was built. Although a project for the future preserves all the characteristics intact up to the present and still growing and multiplying every year, well known at the international spheres.
THE BODEGA’S GROWTH
The Bodega grown rapidly and first space problems arose, that’s how growth process across the comarca began. Right in the centre of the mountain, foundation of Peñafiel Castle, an aging cellar is being built.
As the Bodega’s trademark benefited from a quality and prestigious reputation during the 80’s a well-considered wine terrior adopted its name, Ribera del Duero. The Regulatory Council of Designation of Origin was established to watch over the quality of the area wines. The aging bodega was broaden in 1995 acquiring solid reputation in the international wine scene
This project has been growing by the acquisition of a wine producing bodega in Anguix (Burgos). This cellar has the capability to produce two millions kilograms of grape and it is equipped with the most advanced technology.
