About the winery
The wine farm "Traversa" in the earlier nineteenth century was a "a little homestead"(composed by one or two rooms stone or wood made) surrounded by a substantial plot of land.
The "little homestead" was a support to an other farmstead placed in Serole belongs to Traversa family, ancestor of the present owner wine farm. In the adjacent land was produced the necessary wine for the family and the resident of an other farm in Serole.
In the components of the Traversa family there was also the priest of Spigno Monferrato , Don Francesco Traversa, who suggested the nephew Giuseppe - granfather of the present owner - to live definitively in the Cascina "Bertolotto" and work exclusively at the vineyard and to found a farmstead for the wine.
Giuseppe Traversa followed the advice, started the relationship for selling wine with the Savoia Royal Family, the General Paolo Spingardi family, illustrious citizen in Spigno Monferrato, Commander in chief of the Carabineer Service and Ministry of the War during the First World War (1914-1918).
At the beginning of this century the Family started new contacts with the clerical hierarchy because of the Wine farm produced an excellent "passito"(wine made from dried grapes, used with pleasure during the Mass. Following this tradition during 1985-85 years the vine farm started to supply wine to His Holiness Giovanni Paolo II and to the President of the Italian Republic Sandro Pertini. Both appreciated the wine, they expressed their estimations in the enclosed letters.
The Giuseppe Traversa son , Virginio followed the work started by the father and transferred to his children the passion and love for the wine growing in addition to all traditions and secrets to obtain a product of high quality and of a certain refinement.
The Virginio son, Giuseppe, the grandson Fabio the niece Maria Ida - for the administrative role - leads the farm following the family tradition and, nevertheless, the modern techniques of wine-making.
