About the winery

Don Eleuterio Martinez Arzok was born in Barriobusto. In 1861 he bought a house and lands in Oyon and founded the Faustino Group. At the turn of the century the vineyards were totally destroyed by phylloxera. His son Don Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz was born in 1904 and, in 1920, he helped his father rebuild and restore the vineyards. Faustino began bottling their wines in 1930 and by 1957 Don Julio Faustino Martinez, the third generation, took over the family business and in 1960, the Faustino brand was created in honour of his father. Today, the Faustino group owns several Bodegas including the 55 hectare estate Bodegas Valcarlos.

Sobre la bodega

La bodega cuenta con 77 hectareas en propiedad repartidas entre las localidades de Los Arcos y Torres del Río, a 445 metros de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, donde se cultivan las variedades de Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viura y chardonnay. Las instalaciones de bodega son modernas, levantadas sobre 13.253 metros cuadrados, de los cuales 4.600 se dedican a elaboración y almacenamiento, 3.600 a barricas y 2.400 a botellero. En la actualidad dispone de 4.000 barricas nuevas de roble americano dedicadas a la crianza y posee una capacidad de almacenaje para 300.000 botellas, además de contar con la más novedosa tecnología. El edificio representativo alberga en su parte central una gran cúpula que culmina una gran torre circular a imagen de los característicos tinos y, lógicamente, a gran escala. En su planta sótano alberga el espacio destinado a botelleros y nichos
