Try the unique and true flavour of ungrafted Chardonnay
The grapes for this wine come from old ungrafted vines in a very small sandy vineyard in the Marne valley. In exceptional years a single vineyard Champagne is crafted. In the one I tried the base wine was 2000. The wine is extremely elegant, with a very floral nose, yet there are some silty notes too reminiscent of the ocean. The bubbles are fine and creamy, the wine has a great mouthfeel and flavours of quince, ripe paer and yellow apple, some fresh grounded almonds and a very clean saline finish... The finish has an almost gritty texture wich is really rather unusual and unique just like everything else in this wine!!
