| | Located North of Montpellier, in the South of France, Mas d’Auzières is a 13 hectares domain in Guzargues and Assas. The vineyard covers over 9 hectares, on a terroir classified as AOC. The varietals are typical of Languedoc, with a higher than average weight of Syrah (64%). The vineyard is in average 11 years old.
It spreads over a slight hill of chalk sparks and rocks. The soil is very ancient and deep, with very good water drainage. The Mas d’Auzières strikes by its very natural and wild environment as it is surrounded by garrigue and pine tree groves . The climate is renowned for being very cool, with high temperature gradients between day and night.
The cellar, in a little traditional yellow house with green shutters, is in the middle of the vineyard. It is partially buried, and grapes are transferred in the cement epoxy coated tanks through gravity. That way we can harvest at the last minute as the time for the transfer of grapes from the vineyard to the cellar is below 5 minutes. The protection of the fruit from the grape is a motto in Auzières that also applies during winemaking with the use of soft manual pigeage and remontages as the preferred extraction methods.
The Barrels are kept in the completely buried part of the Cellar. The barrels mostly come from Burgundy, for their soft oak that give roundness, vanilla, toffee and hazelnut, but a few barrels come from Bordeaux for fresh mint and structure.
