Presentation of the winery
Viña Santa Marina is a young winery situated on a beautiful Estate, 8 km. away from Mérida.
The bodega is surrounded by 58 hectares of vineyard that will be extended to 110 hectares in the forthcoming years. Firstly, a highly exhaustive selection of grape varieties was carried out based on the wine we intended to launch on the market. Then, we singled out some varieties such as Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon…, and some other very original varieties, red and whites, that never were grown on this area up to the present but whose performance is under examination.
Secondly, the selection was undertaken by following their patterns
accordingly to the soil and climate’s suitability. And, finally, we based our choices on obtaining quality wines.
Vineyard and cellar emerge under the shadow of a granitic mass, the Lamoneda Mountain Range, at whose foot a deep forest of holm oak, cork-oak, wild olive tree, briar, rockrose and other plants have grown…that together with their balsamic aromas become a great company to the wines of the bodega.
The winery is similar to a typical “cortijo extremeño”, which integrates the buildings into the surrounding marvellous landscape.
The origins of the vineyard date back to Roman times and recent discoveries have revealed a grape-pressing trough in one a villa considered to be linked to the Roman city of Mérida nearby. These archaeological site is being protected by the Consorcio Ciudad Monumental Histórico Artística
Arqueológica of the city of Mérida (a public entity aimed to manage and organize all the procedures related to the preservation, restoration and evolution of all the artistic heritage of Merida).

Presentación de la bodega
Con la experiencia reunida por sus fundadores, se crea Viña Santa Marina, joven bodega asentada en una bonita finca a 9 km. de Mérida.
Rodeando a la bodega se plantó el viñedo, 61 ha. Una exhaustiva selección de variedades, pensado en el vino que queríamos en el mercado, así se eligieron Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon…, y algunas otras muy originales, en tintas y blancas, hasta ahora no plantadas en estas latitudes.
Viñedo y bodega arrancan a la sombra de una imponente mole granítica, la Sierra de Lamoneda, a cuyos pies ha crecido un denso bosque de encinas, alcornoques, acebuches, brezos, jaras,… que acompañan con sus balsámicos aromas a los vinos de la bodega.
Viña Santa Marina se asemeja a un típico “cortijo extremeño”, buscando con ello integrar los edificios en el precioso paisaje que la rodea.
Recientes excavaciones han puesto de manifiesto la existencia de una villa romana con el descubrimiento de un lagar. Estos restos arqueológicos están protegidos por el Consorcio Ciudad Monumental
