Presentation of the winery
Winemaking, architecture & sustainability
Opened in 2001, the new winery was designed to be a harmonious balance between winemaking, architecture and sustainability. These elements have come together to create a temple of winemaking that remains at the cutting edge of the international winemaking industry today.
The new facility is the shared vision of well-known Rioja architect, Ignacio Quemada, Campo Viejo’s Director of Operations, Fernando Pozo and our Winemaker, Elena Adell, who achieved a perfect balance between the 3 pillars supporting the winery: winemaking, architecture and sustainability.
Winemaking: artisans expertise
Our Winemaker, Elena Adell, travelled the world researching the industry’s best wineries. Her input into the design facilitated the creation of a large winery that somehow manages to retain the feeling of working on a small Chateau, as wine artisans.
Burying the winery is as visually spectacular as it is practical. Concealing the bulk of the construction underground has naturally created dark, serene areas with small amounts of natural light, whichevoke the feeling of traditional wineries.
The underground construction has not only preserved the natural beauty of the landscape and created a traditional feel, it has also facilitated conditions that are perfect for winemaking: the ability to move the grapes and wine by gravity, a consistent temperature and stable humidity levels.
All these characteristics combined with cutting-edge technology allow us tomaximise the potential of each grape while giving us the chance to experiment and innovate. The result? Consistently higher quality wines year after year.
If you want to discover the true taste of Rioja, there is no better place than Campo Viejo Winery. Here you will learn about our winemaking processes, our sustainable approach to land management and discover the world of Spanish wine culture. You will also have the privilege of sampling some of our favourite vintages.
Our Winery is set in an idyllic location. Perched on a high plateau, close to Logroño, it has panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. With a calm, almost serene atmosphere, it’s the perfect venue for your private or corporate events.
